TP Silva, a leading manufacturer of firewood machines and their accessories, has made a strategic investment in a new welding robot for its Haapajärvi factory. The robot, which was commissioned this fall, is enhancing the company’s production capabilities and ensuring high-quality outputs.
Enhancing Production Capacity and Efficiency
In response to previous years of increasing demand, TP Silva expanded its production capacity. Although demand has now stabilized, the new welding robot allows the company to maintain its capacity and efficiency at an elevated level. The robot can automatically fabricate larger and more complex components, up to 2000 kilograms in weight, improving production quality compared to the existing welding automation technology.
Advanced Automation Brings Multiple Benefits
The new welding automation system allows TP Silva to reduce welding lead times by 20-30 percent, depending on the complexity of the component. The improvements are achieved through the implementation of a new CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) welding system, which enhances the welding process, particularly for thin plates (1-3 mm thick). The technology also eliminates weld spatter, streamlining post-weld finishing.
Scalability and Future Potential
This investment boosts production efficiency, enabling TP Silva to increase capacity without expanding its factory space. Additionally, the new system offers the potential for further automation upgrades, transforming the setup into an FMS (Flexible Manufacturing System) type welding cell in the future.
“We are excited about the benefits of our new welding robot investment for our Haapajärvi factory. This technology allows us to sustain and enhance our production quality and efficiency while maintaining our current facilities. The opportunity for further automation in the future is an exciting prospect for us,” says Seppo Koiranen, CEO of TP Silva.
